A girl, whose age has been put at about 10, Chioma Ogbu, has been thoroughly beaten up by his uncle, Hillary Apeh, for not fetching water for him to take his bath after he returned from work at night.
The video of the incident has since gone viral.
The incident occurred at 3-3 Street, Onitsha, Anambra State.
After beating up Ogbu, leaving her with lifetime scars, Apeh threw her on the street at 9pm to fetch the water.
She was found on the street at night with bruises and swollen face by neighbours who became curious and demanded to known what happened.
At that time, Ogbu could not talk because she has lost her voice in the process of shouting for help while being beaten.
The neighbours were left with no choice than to report the matter to the nearby 3-3 Police Station.
Apeh, from Enugu Ezike, who she stays, with was summoned to know exactly what led to the beating.
Apeh told the police that he came back from the market and there was no water at home for him to take his bath.
However, in the process of interrogation, it was discovered that Apeh’s first daughter is older than Ogbu.
His wife, Nkiru, was also invited for questioning.
The girl narrated to the police how her uncle has been maltreating her.
She stays at home while her uncle’s children go to school.
She sleeps in the kitchen, while Akpe’s children sleep on the bed.
Nkiru, who Ogbu calls Aunty, starves her over minor issues, making her go without food some times for a whole day.
The girl disclosed that she never wanted to be a house help, but her uncle promised her mother, who is his sister, that he will send her to school, a promise he never fulfilled.
Akpe was still in police custody as at press time.
