The United States of America and the United Kingdom have warned its citizens in Nigeria against travelling to the North during the Easter celebration.
In separate warnings issued on Thursday, the two countires said it had observed the trend that dreaded sect, Boko Haram, strikes more during festivities and in the North.
The United States of america, in the warning issued by its embassy in Abuja on Thursday, said it had observed “continued threats, including several that mention US interests.”
The statement added: “The US Embassy continues to monitor closely the ongoing threats posed by Nigerian extremist and criminal groups, and their stated intentions to carry out attacks against the Nigerian government and western interests and targets in Nigeria.”
The United Kingdom in its own travel advisory, issued by its Foreign Office, lited Borno, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Yobe States as trouble spots to avoid during the holiday, which commences tomorrow and ends on Monday.
It observed that “there is a high threat of terrorist attack during religious festivals.”
