There was uncertainty over the state of health of former President Shehu Shagari on Sunday.
News went viral on Sunday that Alhaji Shagari had died.
However, no member of his family could be reached for comment.
His son, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, who is the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, could not be reached.
So also was The Eagle Online unable to reach a former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission and Kogunan Sokoto, Mallam Danladi Bako, who is close to the family.
Bako, a prominent member of the Sultanate Council, is also the Commissioner for Information of the state.
He was yet to reply a text sent to his mobile number as at press time.
This was apparently as a result of the fact that the enquiry was made late in the night.
Shagari was reported to have died in a German hospital by some online news platforms, while others said he died in Nigeria.
The former president, who turned 90 of recent, was reported to have been suffering from illnesses associated with old age.
However, sources told The Eagle Online that Shagari was alive as at Sunday afternoon.
He was president between 1979 and 1983 when his regime was toppled by the military barely three months into its second term.
