Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole on Wednesday subdued the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, after two hours of heavy fighting.
The fighting, according to available information, was largely around the Polo area of the town.
It was gathered that the Boko Haram fighter suffered heavy casualties.
Following the heavy shooting, the Nigerian Army issued a statement calling for calm in the town.
It said the situation was under control.
The statement by Lieutenant-Colonel Kingsley Samuel, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Department, said: “The situation in Maiduguri is under control. The public is requested not to panic but to stay calm. The press is please requested to disseminate this information to the public.”
