Tribunal strips off power of staff promotion from board

The Code of Conduct Tribunal said on Thursday that its enabling law had stripped off the responsibility of staff promotions from its board.
Ibraheem Al-hassan, the spokesman of the tribunal, said this in a statement issued in Abuja.
The statement is reacting to the absence of the board members at the tribunal’s Senior Management Committee meeting in spite of an invitation by the Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar.
The statement said: “The intendment of the invitation is for promotion issues to be discussed by ways of involving the board members as done previously.
“We are not oblivious of the fact that the board has no role to play in the promotions of staff as stipulated in the Tribunal Act.
“The Tribunal Act has stripped them off the responsibility of promotions.”
According to the statement, the board has powers to appoint and discipline, but certainly not to promote.
The statement said the invitation of the board members to the meeting was conveyed by the chief registrar.
It said the tribunal was committed to ensure that issues bordering on staff career progression were given adequate attention.
The statement called on the committee to begin the process of the promotions, to ensure prompt approval and provision of monetary entitlement to affected staff.
