The Lagos State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has alerted Nigerians of a massive gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following the crash of a tanker on Wednesday on Kara Bridge, Berger.
A statement on Wednesday by the Lagos State Command of the FRSC said the gridlock was compounded by unruly drivers.
The statement said the drivers had started driving against traffic instead of waiting for the crashed articulated vehicle to be taken off the road.
The statement said: “The Federal Road Safety Corps (@FRSCNigeria), Lagos State Command, wishes to inform motorists and the general public of a road traffic crash (RTC) that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 18th December 2024 on the Kara Bridge, Berger, along the Ibadan-bound carriageway of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The situation has been further complicated by some impatient drivers driving against the flow of traffic on the Lagos-bound carriageway, which is beginning to affect traffic flow in that direction as well.

“Motorists and road users are advised to:
“1.Remain calm and avoid panic.
“Ensuring continuous traffic management and minimising disruptions caused by the incident.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all road users. We urge the public to cooperate with traffic officials on the ground and avoid actions that could worsen the traffic situation FRSCNigeria , in collaboration with Police, LASTMA, and other traffic management agencies, is currently:
“Deploying professionals and mobilising the necessary recovery equipment to remove the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic flow.
“2.Explore alternative routes to avoid delays.
“3.Postpone non-essential trips where possible to ease traffic congestion.
“4.Exercise patience and caution to ensure safety during this period.
“The crash involved a fallen container-laden trailer, resulting in the narrowing of lanes and causing significant traffic gridlock on the outward Lagos section of the expressway.
“For updates or assistance, please contact the FRSC Lagos State Command. We wish all road users safe trips to their destinations.”
