Sani Toro, Former Secretary-General, Nigeria Football Association,
on Friday, congratulated Sports Writers Association of Nigeria for attaining 54 years of existence.
Toro felicitated with the association when he met some sport writers in Bauchi as part of activities organised by the state chapter to celebrate SWAN at 54.
He said the association had contributed immensely toward sports development in the country during its 54 years of existence.
He particularly commended the association for the new innovation in celebrating 54 years of its existence, considering the numerous contributions it had made.
Toro, also a former Commissioner for Sports in Bauchi State, however, urged members of the association to promote other sporting events rather than concentrate on football.
He expressed optimism that SWAN would set agenda that could attract government interest in promoting other sporting events.
The former secretary-general described sports as “the only veritable tool that can unite Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe or ethnicity”.
He urged government at all levels to pay attention to sports development in their respective areas of jurisdiction for the country to forge forward.
