Three security men docked for alleged negligent conduct

Three security men were Monday docked in a Grade I Area Court in Abuja for alleged negligent conduct.

The police accused David Dauda, Raymond Joseph and Simon Chukwu of abandoning their place of duty thereby paving way for thieves to access the mall.

The Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that on September 7, at about 10:30 a.m, the complainant, Chris Luka, head of operations, Rock of Ages Mall, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.

Nwafoaku alleged that on September 6, the defendants who were security guards attached to the mall, formed criminal intentions and abandoned their place of duty thereby paving way for thieves to access the mall.

He alleged that, the thieves who gained entrance into the mall, stole a Toyota Camry car with registration number BWR 643 JB worth N1mlion.

Nwafoaku told the court that during police investigation the defendants could not give a satisfactory account of their actions, neither the were about of the stolen vehicle.

The prosecution council said the offence contravene section 196 of the penal code law.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The  Defence Counsel, Charity Nwosu, moved a bail application for his clients in the most liberal terms.

Nwosu made the application citing sections 36 of the 1999 constitution and sections 158 of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, promised that the defendants will not jump bail if granted same.

The prosecution counsel, however, did not object to the bail application made by the defense counsel.

The Judge, Malam Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.

Wakili ordered that the surety must provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The Judge adjourned the matter until January 10 for hearing.
