The mastermind of the 2011 Christmas Day bombing at St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger state, Kabiru Umar, also known as Kabiru Sokoto has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The terror attack claimed no fewer than 44 lives and left several people injured. While ruling on Friday, Justice Ademola Adeniyi found Kabiru Sokoto guilty of terrorism and murder.
Kabiru Sokoto is believed to be a member of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram. He was also said to have recruited hundreds of people into the sect.
The Islamist sect, Boko Haram had carried out dozens of terror attacks in the northern eastern part of the country leading to loss of thousands of lives and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
The sect also claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Police Force headquarters and United Nations building, both in Abuja.
