A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has hailed the move against tenure extension by President Muhammadu Buhari but allayed fears of candidate imposition.
In a statement, the former Spokesman of the party and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said politics of godfatherism will not augur well for the APC.
Vatsa said: “As far as I am concerned, it is a very good thing for the APC.
“But we are more concerned about godfatherism.
“They should allow popular people to emerge because anything that will thwart the people’s choice will lead to party crisis.”
It should be recalled that President Buhari recently kicked against the tenure extension of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other elected state officials describing it as illegal.
Vatsa said: “The truth remains that the decision by President Buhari against elongated tenure of the APC National Chairman and other elected state officials has saved the APC from legal actions from some quarters.
“We must begin to show to Nigerians that we are capable of conducting national, state and even wards conventions.
“If not, the party may be thrown into crisis.
“We promised the people change and we must exhibit it.
“If the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, is being ousted over non performance, there is no big deal, but they should allow popular candidates emerge and there shouldn’t be any form of candidate imposition.”
