The Top Rank CEO has been locked in negotiations with Joshua’s representative Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport over a potential unification bout this coming summer.

The Matchroom supremo insisted on Sunday that only a few minor issues are yet to be resolved in the latest indication that both British stars will soon fight to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Joshua, the IBF, WBA and WBO titleholder, retained his belts against Kubrat Pulev on Saturday, but has never fought his fellow Brit, who kept his WBC belt by beating Deontay Wilder in February.

The IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion realises Pulev stands between him and the biggest British boxing match in the sport’s history, a showdown with WBC champ Tyson Fury in 2021.

Joshua and Fury look set to finally fight next year, as long as AJ beats Kubrat Pulev next weekend and the Gypsy King either comes through a proposed bout in early 2021 or simply waits for the super fight in the summer.

Wilder was beaten by Fury in their rematch in February as he suffered his first professional defeat and The Bronze Bomber came up with several bizarre explanations for the loss, including a claim that Fury’s fingernails punctured the glove and scratched him.

The 54-year-old will make his long-awaited, albeit controversial, return to the ring against Roy Jones Jr on November 28 and has undertaken a rigorous training regime to build up his physique.
