Police spokesman Gambo Isah announced this in Katsina at a women summit entitled: “Way Out to Rising Rape Cases in Katsina State”.
Ajayi Okasanmi, Police Public Relations Officer of the command, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin that the alleged rape cases happened between February and August.
She underscored the need for individuals to rise up to put an end to the menace and protect the future of children, especially girls.
The elder statesman, in a statement by his Media Coordinator, Tunde Olofintila, in Ado Ekiti, also recommended an amendment to the laws relating to rape such that rapists would not be imprisoned only, but castrated to serve as deterrent to others.
The advice was given by the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Ota, Ogun State.
Adamu made the disclosure while briefing State House Correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, which was also had in attendance the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and the Minister of Women Affairs Development, Pauline Tallen.
