The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service said on Monday that it had launched a renewed enforcement exercise against defaulting taxpayers by sealing eight companies for failure to file returns and payment of taxes.

The affected Hotels and Restaurants were reported to be owing the State a cumulative sum of N91,157,286.75.
Speaking tough on the stand of the state government, the Director of Legal Services of the LIRS, Seyi Alade, gave a stern warning during the statewide tax enforcement exercise that defaulting Hotels, Restaurants and Event Centres would now face the full wrath of the law if they fail to deduct and remit their taxes as provided by the law
The affected hotels include Starfire Hotels, Ikeja; Zaaz Hotel Limited, Ikeja; Le Parisian Suites, Opebi; Cottage Guest House Two, Opebi; Suite 29, Ikeja; Bec Ind Catering Company, Ikeja; Hotel De Jas, Oshodi; Florida International Motel, Ajao Estate; Atlantic Product Limited, Victoria Island; Soul Centre, Okota; and Taesuites Limited, Ikoyi
The Commissioner, who disclosed that the Ministry of Justice had established a Rapid Tax Prosecution Unit to aid the Lagos Internal Revenue Service in its drive to collect taxes, added that the unit would work closely with the Revenue Court which the Chief Judge of Lagos State recently agreed to set up
