NAN reports that the first case of Lassa fever was diagnosed at LUTH on January 15 on a 25-year-old student of the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State (names withheld)

The state Commissioner for Health, Kuden Dayin, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the victims died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital on Saturday
This development was confirmed on Monday following the report of a case in Asaba, the Delta State capital, and another in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital
The position of the Congress was stated on Monday by its Rivers State Chairman, Comrade Hyginus Chika Onuegbu, in a statement
He decried the emergency response arrangement set up by the government to tackle outbreak of any epidemic of this nature.

Addressing journalists at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja on the first case of the disease recorded in the state, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said in line with international standards, 92 persons who had direct and indirect contact with the index case are currently being followed-up
Razak Adeofalade, the Chairman of the union, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos
The commissioner said the medical doctor, who died after contracting the disease, had been buried after consultations with the family.
Odagme said the doctor died at a hospital outside Port Harcourt and that contacts he had hours before his death were among those under observation
The CMD was reacting to the rumour making the rounds that some health workers at the hospital took to their heels when a suspected Lassa fever patient was brought to the hospital
This brings to three the number of people killed so far by the disease in the state
Also, as part of an immediate measures to curb the spread, no fewer than 35 persons that the victim may have come in contact with are now being traced in Abuja
The latest death from Lassa fever brings the total number of deaths to 43 in the country
