Sirika made the remark while speaking at an interactive session with Aviation Correspondents in Lagos
A statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by ICRC’s Head of Communications, Deborah Okafor, said Diko made the call when he led a management team on a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika
He promised that government would give consideration to requests by serious foreign airlines for increased flight frequencies as long as the nation’s interests were not compromised
He said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was working towards improving the aviation industry in Nigeria to make it locally relevant and globally more competitive
The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, disclosed this during an inspection tour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Wednesday
In what could be termed a comprehensive mission, Sirika had quite some surprises and a handful of seemingly simple solutions to longstanding problems and issues. One surprise: Government plans to concession four major airports to the private sector. The Minister believes that by bringing in the private sector, the country can achieve better infrastructural development and improve the efficiency of service delivery at these airports. The airports in question are the international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano
Sirika, while addressing an Aviation Stakeholders Forum in Abuja on Monday, said the government would establish a national carrier that would be private sector driven
According to the Minister, rather than cause problems for the travelling public, the airlines should devise better means of improving their services in terms of customer comfort, safe and timely flights, more effective information dissemination and network expansion
