Archbishop Martins gave the charge in his 2021 Christmas message, titled: “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.”

The Catholic Bishop said the deployment of security operatives to protest grounds can only lead to injuries and possible deaths.

Martins, in a statement by the Director, Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, on Saturday in Lagos, said that the allegations of police brutality on the masses had become more urgent and constituted an unprofessional act.

The Bishop, who made the call in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, expressed frustration at the spate of insecurity across the country.

Martins, who was appointed Archbishop of Lagos by the Pope in 2012, said this during an interview with the BBC Igbo in reaction to Mbaka’s prophecy that Hope Uzodinma would emerge as governor of Imo State.

Martins, in his New Year message signed by Rev. Fr Anthony Godonu, Director of Social Communications, said there was need to forge a more peaceful and united country in the New Year.

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, has told the nation’s security agencies to restrategise in the bid to combat insecurity in the Country.

Martins made this commendation on Saturday at a news conference to mark his 59th birthday at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Obalende, Lagos.

Martins gave the advice on Tuesday during his sermon at the Requiem Mass for the slain priests and lay faithful in Mbalon, Benue State.

Martins made the call at the 2018 Chrism Mass to commemorate the institution of priesthood and the blessing of oils held at the Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos.
