The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has sent a condolence message to the government and good people of Kaduna State as well as family of the late Kaduna State Governor, Sir Patrick I. Yakowa, who died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State.
In the condolence message, signed by the SWAN National President, Alhaji Saidu Abubakar, the deceased was described as a great lover of sports.
The letter reads: “He was the people’s governor whose love for sports knew no bounds. His death came at a time he was needed most within the sporting circle.
“As the first leader of delegation of the then North Central State to the National Sports Festival in 1973 in Lagos, late Yakowa was also instrumental to the success of the KADA Games 2009 16th National Sports Festival as the LOC chairman.”
Yakowa will be best remembered, among others, according to SWAN, for his hospitality and hosting of the SWAN Full Council meeting last year.
SWAN prayed for the repose of his soul and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
