The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, has threatened to ban any journalist who writes negative report on its proceedings.
Ubosi, who gave the warning in Enugu on Thursday, stressed that only what transpired on the floor of the Assembly should be reported without addition or subtraction.
He said: “Quote us the way we say things here otherwise we stop you from covering the Assembly.
“We only set up a committee to look into the diversion of funds at the Board of Internal Revenue.
“We never said that we are probing the former Governor Sullivan Chime.
“Don’t add your own.
“Just say it the way we say it here in the Assembly.”
Some media outfit last Tuesday reported that the Enugu State House of Assembly wants to probe the former governor.
The Assembly had set up a seven-man committee to look into the diversion of funds at the Enugu Board of Internal Revenue.
Ubosi said the seven-man committee was set up to look into the activities of the board with a view to ascertaining the true position of the Internally Generated Revenue of the state between 2008 and June 2016.
The action of the assembly followed a petition by Obinna Okenwa (PDP-Enugu South Urban) that funds were diverted by the Chairman of the board, Felix Chime, and other principal officers.
Okenwa said the alleged diversion had further worsened the economic situation of the state.
He prayed the House to investigate the matter with a view to recovering the diverted fund.
