South-South, South-East are PDP strongholds – Kalu

A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has said that the South-South and the South-East deserve the best from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Kalu spoke in Conakry, Guinea while addressing a cross section of Guinea-based Nigerians, who are members of the PDP.
According to a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, Kalu said the South-South and the South-East ensured that the party came to prominence when other geopolitical zones were still with opposition parties.
He said at the meeting with the Nigerians on Friday, that while at the return of democratic rule to Nigeria, the South-West rooted for the Alliance for Democracy and the core North was controlled mainly by the All Nigeria Peoples Party, the South-South and the South-East ensured 100 per cent victory for the PDP.
He said: “There is no doubt that both regions have made a great impact in the successes of the PDP in the country today.
“You cannot write the history of the PDP without the two regions at the forefront.”
Kalu, an advocate of Igbo presidency in 2015, stated that his call for an Igbo man/woman to lead the country was borne out of the marginalization the South-East since the creation of the country.
He promised that Ndigbo will provide dynamic leadership anchored on economic stability.
He said there are many Igbo sons and daughters in all sectors who have the wherewithal to proffer practical solutions to the nation’s problems and challenges.
He charged the audience to participate in the political process in Nigeria, noting that it remained the only way Nigerians in Diaspora can contribute to decision making and nation building.
Kalu said: “Come home, move around, offer constructive criticisms, initiate self help projects in communities, monitor government and political activities and participate in elections.”
In his remarks, John Emenike, a merchant and supporter of the PDP, said they will continue to give their support to such a great party.
Emenike noted that Nigerian traders based in Guinea believe in the party “and that’s why we are all members of the party.”
He commended the reconciliation efforts of the leadership of the party, noting that it shows that the PDP is waxing stronger ahead of the 2015 general election.
Emenike thanked Kalu, who he described as a rare gem that consistently fights for the rights of his people anywhere he goes.
He said: “Dr. Kalu, we are happy associating with you.”
