The acting Director General of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Paul Angya, believes the war against fake and substandard products could also be won through the sports sector because of its unique merchandising opportunities that helps to grow the nation’s economy.
Angya stated this while receiving the delegation from the Federal Capital Territory Badminton Association, led by the Association’s Chairman, Gabriel Gbayan, which paid him a courtesy visit at the Standard Organisation of Nigeria Headquarters in Abuja.
The Acting Director General identified sports as one of the best avenue to win the war against substandard goods.
He warned that adulterated goods and products can hinder the success of athletes on and off the sporting arena.
According to him: “Sports is a global tool for sustainable economic development and to this end, sports administrators should protect the integrity of the sector by ensuring compliance in all their activities.”
Angya promised that the Standard Organisation of Nigeria will continue its massive publicity enlightenment campaign through collaboration with sports stakeholders with the aim of getting rid of substandard sports goods.
On the occasion of the Federal Capital Territory Badminton Association visit to his office, Angya thanked the Board for the timely courtesy call, while also pronouncing the Association as the first sport brand ambassador of the organisation.
Gbayan appreciated the acting DG for the hospitality accorded his team and promised to work harmoniously with the SON to promote its core values.
