Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, has presented letters of credence to six newly appointed ambassadors.
The Envoys and their postings are: S.U Amhed (Sri Lanka), Ifeoma Akabogu-Chinwuba (Cote d’Ivoire), Bassey Archibong (Gabon), Adadu Echi (Equatorial Guinea), Adadu Emozozo (Brazil) and Modupe Quist-Adebiyi (Sierra Leone).
Presenting the letters, Onwuliri charged them to discharge their duties within the country’s new foreign policy, which is aimed at promoting Nigeria to the outside world..
She also stressed the need for them to be accountable and to give priority to protecting the interest of Nigerians, saying: “We would not want to get complains from Nigerians that they are not well taking care of.
“I am pleased to note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under our watch, has kept faith with this commitment.
“You are expected to carry the flag of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and particularly the Transformation Agenda to the world with a view to ensuring that you secure the best possible advantages and opportunities for Nigeria and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora. The government and people of Nigeria expect no less from you.”
The minister reassured them that government would continue to appoint career ambassadors taking cognizance of merit, gender, competence and seniority so as to strengthen professionalism in the conduct of Nigeria’s foreign policy.
Speaking on behalf of others, Ambassador S.U Ahmed expressed delight that they were considered worthy of representing the nation, saying they would justify the confidence reposed in them.
