A serving Senator and also a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator G. N. S. Pwajok, has described as unfortunate the relative backwardness of the Nigeria’s democracy.
Pwajok stated this during the House of Assembly primaries conducted by the PDP in Plateau State on Saturday.
He said elections should provide a place for consolidating the unity of the country rather than creating disunity.
He said: “Politics is a platform of bringing people together regardless of ethnic and religious differences.
“So I want to call on my constituents to conduct themselves well.
“And those who are elected and not elected should ensure that their supporters also conform with the wishes of popular majority because in the long run, that is what democracy is all about.
“Party politics is still significantly underdeveloped as far as I am concerned.
“That is why cross carpeting is so easy in one form or the order, but I think we will get to the point where there will be clear law restricting such cross carpeting from one party to the other.”
Meanwhile speaking to newsmen shortly after his emergence as the candidate for the PDP state House of Assembly for Jos North Constituency, Hon. Auwal Haruna, called on all those who contested against him to join hands with him so that they could work as a team to deliver the party in all the elections.
According to Haruna: “I don’t want to say this victory is for me alone.
“It’s for everybody.
“All those who contested with me should come so that we can join hands together to move our great party forward.
“Nobody can work in isolation.
“So I am calling on them, whatever idea or contributions they have, they are welcome.”
