The Defence Headquarters on Monday said scores of heavily armed terrorists using women and children as shield died on Sunday when they attacked Babbangida town in Yobe State.
This information was contained in a statement posted on the Defence Headquarters website.
The statement said the terrorists died as Nigerian troops engaged them in a gun battle and eventually foiled their action on Sunday.
It noted that over 10 rifles, weapon accessories, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and some hand grenades were recovered from the area.
Some of the terrorists were said to have fled with gunshot wounds.
The statement added that one soldier and a vigilance group member died, while five were wounded during the encounter.
