The Authorities of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday said they distributed 1.3 million copies of the Holy Qur’an, translated in different languages, to departing pilgrims.
Sheikh Talal bin Ahmad Al-Aqeel, the Adviser to the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Chairman of the Committee of the Custodian of the two holy Mosques, announced this in Mecca.
Al-Aqeel said that the free Qur’an was a gesture to wish the pilgrims well and to serve as lasting memory of their holy pilgrimage to the kingdom.
He said that the custodian of the mosques approved the distribution to serve as life companion and spiritual reference to the pilgrims, when they returned home.
Al-Aqeel said there was no greater gift for the guests of God than the Holy Qur’an.
According to him, more than 1.3 million copies in Arabic and translations of other languages are distributed every year.
The adviser also said that operational teams had been deployed at the kingdom’s various ports to ensure round-the-clock distribution of the gift.
“The gift package, which is published by the Publication and Scientific Research Agency, contains the Holy Qur’an, four Islamic books, a CD and a cassette that contain lectures,” he said.
Al-Aqeel explained that the items dealt with several issues on the science of Islam, Islamic culture and jurisprudence, among others.
