Saraki, Oyinlola, others in closed-door meeting with Obasanjo

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, was at the head of a delegation of senators and prominent members of the All Progressives Congress who held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday.
The meeting was held at the Hilltop residence of Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Among those who accompanied Saraki to the meeting were a former Governor of Ogun State and member of the APC, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and a former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and now chieftain of the APC, Alhaji Kawu Baraje.
Others in the entourage of Saraki, who arrived Obasanjo’s ‎hilltop residence in Abeokuta at 9:10am, were Senators Andy Uba, Danjuma Goje, Ahmad Yerima and Tayo Alasoadura.
The visit by Saraki to Obasanjo in along with some loyalists and trusted lieutenants of the former president further fuelled the news that the crisis rocking the APC was far from over.
The party had been in crisis since the emergence of Saraki as Senate president and Hon. Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The two men emerged without the support of the leadership of the party.
The party had settled for Senator Ahmad Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the president of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
It was therefore believed that Saraki’s visit to Obasanjo was for him (Obasanjo) to prevail on the leadership of the party and President Muhammadu Buhari to accept his emergence.
The meeting ended at about 11am.
Saraki told newsmen after the meeting: “We are here to pay our homage to him (Obasanjo), to seek his advice, to get his blessing and also to consult. ‎
“We all know President Obasanjo’s value to this country and we are here to tap from his wisdom, knowledge and experience.”
Saraki was also positive the crisis rocking the party would soon be over.
He said: “As you can see, things are moving smoothly.
“Definitely, be rest assured that all that would be put behind us very shortly.
“We are very confident about that.”
Speaking on the call for the downward review of the salaries and allowances of the members of the National Assembly, Saraki said it would be done in the interest of the country.
He said: “I think already that is in progress.
“If you remember last time, it was about N150 billion and it’s coming down to N120 billion.‎
“I think the situation in the country deserves that every public servant must make sacrifices and whatever sacrifice that is necessary, we will do it.
“And that is being done.
“So, be rest assured that we are sensitive, we are aware of the situation in the country and if we are going to lead, we must lead by example.”
