The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has released N1.4 billion as a bailout to augment local government areas to pay shortfall of July and August salaries.
Bello said the money was released to the councils for them to pay the July and August salary so that their staff can celebrate Sallah (eid-el Kabir) conveniently
Speaking in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, the governor disclosed on Saturday that he has given the directive for the release of the fund to the affected local government councils whose allocations could not cater for their staff Salary.
“Immediately after the directive on Monday all relevant Ministries released the money to the councils for them to pay the July and August salary so that their staff can celebrate Sallah (eid-el Kabir) conveniently,” he declared
Bello stated that the councils that were affected by the outstanding balance of salary payment were twelve out of the twenty five local government areas in the state and the state government gave the succor to alleviate the suffering of local government councils’ workers.
He listed the affected local government councils given the bail out to include Agaie, Bida, Bosso, Gbako, Gurara, Katcha, Lapai, Lavun , Chanchaga, Paikoro, Shiroro and suleja.
Vatsa however maintained that the present administration in the state is responsive to and responsible for the welfare of the people of the state and that the state government will continue to make sure that local government administration work in the state.
He stated that Bello takes local government administration serious in the state , since the councils were the closest to the people that needed government attention most.
While wishing the people of the state a fruitful and happy sallah celebrations, he appealed to the people of the state to continue to pray for government at all levels to meander through the present economic recession.
