The Estu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, on Tuesday called on Muslims in the country to use the period of the Ramadan to pray for the peace and progress of Nigeria.
Abubakar, who made the call in Bida in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, stressed the importance of prayers, especially against the backdrop of the current security challenges facing the nation.
He said: “Fasting is not only abstaining from drinking, eating or abstinence from committing sins.
“It is also a time to emulate the good deeds of Prophet Muhammad during his life time on earth and how he related with others.”
The monarch also urged Muslim faithful to show love and concern for the less-privileged in the society by offering them assistance to cushion their hardship during the period.
Abubakar said that both Islam and Christianity, the two major religions in the country, preached peace, love and unity among Nigerians.
He therefore urged Nigerians to imbibe the teachings of the two religions in the interest of the nation’s development.
He appealed to Muslim parents to give their children and wards Islamic and Western education in order to equip them for the challenges ahead of them in life, as leaders of tomorrow.
The monarch urged religious clerics in the country to refrain from using provocative utterances during the Ramadan fast lectures to forestall any issue that could lead of crisis.
He said: “As preachers, they should serve as a guide and guide the people well and desist from selfish and inciting preaching.”
