Senator Gyang Pwajok has commended the Special Task Force over the arrest of 16 cattle rustlers, saying that the feat will restore peace to troubled Plateau North.
Pwajok (PDP-Plateau North), who made the disclosure when he reacted to the arrest, said that bursting the racket would “certainly reduce future excuses for such attacks”.
He added: “We expect a huge reduction in such attacks, except if the conflict merchants come up with new excuses.”
Pwajok added, however, that the STF must go beyond the cattle racket and identify the killer squads behind the killings in Plateau.
He said: “What we have always had are all manners of atrocities over cow theft.
“In terms of balance of scale, no human life should be compared with that of a cow.
“The composition of the burst racket also shows that concepts such as ‘Berom’ and ‘Fulani’ have only made it more difficult to undertake any incisive investigation into the conspiracies that have led to the killings.
“That all groups are involved in the theft only shows that all groups may just be part of the killer squads that have unleashed mayhem on the people of Plateau North over the years.”
Pwajok urged the STF to sustain the effort toward ending the violence in Plateau State and assured the outfit of his full support.
The STF Commander, General Dave Enetie, last week announced the arrest of a 16-man cattle rustling syndicate, and added that the arrest had halted the incessant cow theft in Plateau State.
The 16 suspects, including one woman, cut across ethnic and religious groups.
Enetie described the composition of the suspects as “rather surprising”.
