Prime Football Club qualified for the quarter-finals of the Federation Cup on Thursday after beating First Bank FC of Lagos 3-2 in a nail-biting penalty shootout at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo State.
Lasisi Yusuff shot Prime into lead in the 20th minute from a rebound off Abdullah Fatai’s free-kick.
First Bank came into the game stronger after conceding the first goal, with the fireworks in front of goal curtailed by the impressive Prime defence line and goalkeeper, Adejare Adeniyi, to end the first half a goal in favour of Prime.
First Bank took full advantage of some Prime sloppiness at the back to level up in the 54th minute of the encounter.
The result stayed 1-1 at full time as both sides went into penalty shoot out.
The Omoluabi Giants’ keeper, Adejare Adeniyi, stopped three First Bank kicks to send his side to the quarter finals, while First Bank’s Shakiru Lawal saved two.
Prime will lock horns with the winner of Bayelsa United/Gateway FC in the quarter finals next week.
