Polls: We are ready in Niger – CP

With barely a week to the 2015 general elections, the Niger State Police Command on Friday said that it was fully ready to provide adequate security for the election.

Speaking in Minna at the passing out ceremony of 184 officers and men of the command trained in combat operations, the Commissioner of Police, Olusola Amore, said the police was fully prepared to take charge of the elections by providing adequate security before, during and after.

The officers and men, who are drawn from all the police divisions in the state, were trained in new operational tactics including counter terrorism operations, kidnap rescue operations and quelling of riots and civil disturbances.

Amore disclosed that the men were trained specially to provide security for the elections and therefore warned that the police will not entertain any act of violence from any political thug, godfather and miscreants.

He said: “Our men are ready for the election.

“They have been well groomed to meet up with the security situation in the state during the election period.

“We are warning all miscreants, political warlords and thugs who think they can disrupt the elections that we are ready for them.

“We have a special brand of police to take care of the election.”

While assuring the personnels that all their allowances and entitlement for the election would be paid to them before leaving for their duty post, the police boss however warned them that they will be fully responsible for any act of violence wherever they are posted for the election duties.

He therefore urged them to make use of the experience they have gained from the training, adding: “The police force has the men that will do the job and we are mentally and physically prepared for the election.”

Amore pointed out that aside the combat operational tactics, the officers and men also received mental development training, including general police duties lectures, the new electoral act, intelligence gathering tactics and force operational guidelines on the conduct of the general elections.
