Police hunt OPC member for supplying ex-convicts with guns

Members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos State have launched a manhunt for a member of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, who used to supply some ex-convicts with guns for robbery operations.
The manhunt was launched after some of the robbers, who had only just recently left prisons, embarked on a robbery operation and were arrested.
Some of the gang members squealed that the OPC member, who used to supply them guns, lives at Ifedagbo Jaju area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State and is known simply as Commander.
One of the gang members, Oliyinde Mutiu, was said to have been arrested when he came into Lagos State and tried to sell one of the cars they had snatched in another state.
According to Mutiu, the gang’s modus operandi was to target a particular street or area and rob from one building to another.
He recalled that the gang once went for an operation at Ijegun area of Lagos State, where three of their members were killed.
Among the three men killed was the leader of the gang identified as Johnson.
The deaths of the three men dampened the surviving members’ spirits and they decided to go underground for a while, before regrouping.
Mutiu went to Abeokuta.
Meanwhile, police had started tracking the gang.
Johnson’s wife was arrested by SARS.
Under the heat of interrogation, the woman spilled the beans on all she knew about the gang and its members.
When she was eventually released, the gang members invited her to Abeokuta and killed her.
Narrating how he first landed in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Mutiu said: “We went to rob at Sango-Ota.
“We were arrested by OPC men.
“The OPC men dispossessed us of our three guns.
“We were taken to court and imprisoned.
“We were later granted bail.
“It was while we were on bail that we got a call from one Jibola, asking us to get him a car.
“We didn’t know he is a policeman.
“Jibola called us, saying that he heard that we had a vehicle to sell.
“We were even surprised at how Jibola got our phone number.
“When we asked him, he told us that someone in Kirikiri Prisons gave him the phone number.
“We were still negotiating on the price of the car, when police surrounded us.”
Mutiu and other gang members had since opened up on how Commander used to supply them with guns whenever they wanted to go for operations.
Police are still hunting for Commander, but it appears the man has simply disappeared into thin air.
