The Lagos State Police Command has busted a six-man robbery gang.
Among the six men, two have been identified as two blood brothers.
The robbers were supposed to attack and rob a man who had just returned from overseas.
The robbers told police that their informant told them that the man returned to Nigeria with tons of dollars.
They wanted some of the dollars and had planned to rob the man.
But the police spoilt the party for the robbers.
The downfall of the gang started after the police got a tip-off that the robbers would strike at Ogijo area of Lagos State.
When police followed the tip-off, it paid off.
The police saw the robbers in a car, cruising round a particular building in the area.
After a while, the robbers zoomed off and the police tailed them.
The robbers soon got to a point of the road where there was another set of policemen.
They slowed down.
The unmarked police car that had been tailing them suddenly sped closer to the gang and asked all the occupants to step down from the car.
But rather than halt, the driver attempted to reverse.
The police opened fire on the tyres of the car.
Immediately the policemen on the road heard the gunshots, they bolted like the hounds of hell were after them.
The driver of the car halted, jumped out and fled.
The police however, arrested five other men in the car.
When the car was searched, one AK47 rifle with double magazine, 30-30 rounds was discovered.
The five men were handcuffed and dragged to the police command at Ikeja.
During interrogation, one of the robbers, Tony Ezekiel, said that it was Abiodun Amuda, who called him for the robbery operation.
According to Ezekiel, Amuda told him that if he went with them to the operation, he would never regret it.
Amuda told him that they were going after someone who had just returned from overseas and had a lot of dollars.
Amuda on his part insisted that it was Samuel who called him to join in the aborted robbery operation.
He also claimed that it was his first robbery.
Johnne and Sikiru are two brothers among the arrested gang members.
The robbers also revealed that the driver, who jumped out from the car, was their gang leader.
The gang leader is called Olomi and he was the person who organised the robbery.
According to Sikiru, Olomi called him that they would be going to rob a man who had just returned from overseas.
It was also Olomi who used to go to Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State to get guns for robbery operations.
