Police arrest two over murder of expatriate

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of two persons in connection with the murder of an expatriate handling the construction of the Ijegun-Jakande Road in Lagos.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ngozi Braide, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the suspects were being detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
NAN reports that the deceased was allegedly stabbed to death at night by seven persons on November 3, a week after his wife gave birth to a baby.
NAN also reports that the expatriate, an employee of the Hitech Construction Company, was allegedly killed in his apartment in Isheri-Osun on the Ijegun-Jakande Road.
Braide said that the arrested persons were the deceased’s guards who were allegedly tied by the attackers.
She said that an autopsy had been carried out on the deceased while the corpse had been taken back to his country.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Ijegun, Oba Nureni Akinremi, has urged the police to thoroughly investigate the alleged killing and prosecute those behind the crime.
“A thorough investigation by the police and other law enforcement agents will unravel the circumstances of the death,” Akinremi said.
Akinremi appealed to residents of Ijegun and Jakande to give useful information to the police to aid their investigation.
He said: “No community can develop with crime.
“We must learn to expose suspicious persons in our communities to reduce crimes.”
Akinremi urged the residents to be patient with the Lagos State Government on the construction of the road.
“The government is aware of the challenges faced by the residents,” he said.
