Davou Fompun, Chairman, Plateau Civil Service Commission, said on Wednesday that no fewer than 3,264 civil servants in the state were recently promoted.
Fompun, who made the disclosure when the executive members of the organised labour in the state paid him a courtesy visit in Jos, said that the exercise followed the lifting of the embargo on promotion.
He said that lifting of the embargo was a testimony of the state government’s resolve and commitment to create a sense of belonging among civil servants, especially, enhancement of their welfare.
According to him, the commission is determined to ensure that civil servants are well motivated and to ensure that hard work is rewarded in accordance with the laid-down statute.
Fompun noted that the state government had cleared the backlog of arrears of promotion.
He said: “The only outstanding promotion arrears is that of 2018 and it will be cleared before the year ends.”
Earlier, the State Chairman of the Labour Union, Timothy Gopeye, lauded government’s gesture, saying the lifted embargo on promotion and consequent promotion of more than 3,000 workers was a welcome development.
He said that civil servants in the state had become more committed and proactive to duty, with the belief that “there is reward for hard work”.
Gopeye also commended the state government for its approval of the conversion of the new grade levels for staff, who acquired higher educational qualifications.
He also talked about correction of the error concerning staff placed on wrong steps and grade levels.
