The National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress has rejected the dissolution of the steering committee and suspension of some of its members in Plateau State.
The ADC, in a letter signed by its National Secretary, Alhaji Sa’id Baba Abdullahi, addressed to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said the NWC has “ordered all positions within the party to be reverted to its initial position”.
The letter was made available to journalists in Jos on Thursday alongside a press release signed by the embattled Chairman and Secretary of the dissolved committee, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi and Mubarak Yusuf Garko, respectively.
“The press release made by the State Chairman/Gubernatorial candidate of the party in which he dissolved a committee set up to look into the ADC post election issues and suspended members is rejected by the National Working Committee as they remain bonafide members of the party,” the letter reads in part.
It further stated their names as Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi, Mubarak Yusuf Garko, Muhammad Bashir, Umar Dauda Isa, Hon. Sani Abdul, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, Ibrahim U. Mamman, Hajiya Maimunatu Abubakar Sa’ad and Hajiya Aisha Musa.
The letter said Musa, who was the gubernatorial candidate, should “mind his utterances in any matter that could bring about any further escalation of problems within the party”.
Meanwhile in their press release, the reinstated members said based on the party’s constitution, Article 17 (1)a, the tenure of office holders will last for only four years and therefore the tenures of the current officers, including the chairman, have expired and is “hereby dissolved”.
They further said effective from May 21, 2015, a caretaker committee is set up to take care of the party’s affairs pending when new officers are elected.
In his swift reaction to the said reinstatement of the members, Musa said he was not aware of any letter from the National Secretary”.
He said the constitution of the party stipulates that until a national convention is held no dissolution of any structure will take place.
“So they have no right to dissolves us until the convention is held,” he added.
The party has been in internal crisis over the alleged exclusion of its logo by the Independent National Electoral Commission during the last governorship election in the state.
While the candidate is insisting that no petition should be filed at the tribunal, the other faction are insisting that exclusion must be challenged.Plateau ADC crisis deepens, as NWC reinstates suspended members
