Petroleum Tanker Drivers fault DSS on arrest of Ifeanyi Ubah

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has faulted the Department of State Services on one of the reasons it offered for the arrest of the owner of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah.
In a statement on Sunday, the PTD distanced itself from the arrest of Ubah on Friday by the DSS.
It said Ubah, contrary to the claim of the DSS, never infiltrated the ranks of the PTD in order to induce a strike based on his face-off with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on unaccounted for N11 million product kept in his company’s tank farm in Lagos.
“We read from an online publication the arrest of Ifeanyi Uba for stealing and diversion of petroleum products worth N11bn and further allegation of inciting Petroleum Tanker Driver to cause economic sabotage,” a statement by the PTD said.
In the statement by the PTD Media Officer, Comrade Mohammed Absulkadir, the leadership of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers said it wished to categorically deny the allegation of Ifeanyi Uba or any other individual, inciting the Tanker Drivers to cause any economic sabotage.
It added: “The allegation is baseless, unfounded and totally untrue.
“Our responsibility as a Trade Union is solely to promote, project and protect the job security and welfare of workers most especially the petroleum tanker drivers in Nigeria.
“We have no further relationship with any capitalist/employer beyond the precinct of promoting, projecting and protecting the security of jobs and welfare of our members.
“We unequivocally support the on going war against corruption by the current government and any capitalist/employer found culpable of stealing, diversion or embezzlement of government funds should be appropriately dealt with in accordance with the law.
“The Petroleum Tanker Driver Branch of NUPENG has over the years built a good brand of integrity and excellent service to the nation and we will not allow anyone or institution no matter how highly placed to bring this beautiful brand our forebears toiled to build into disrepute.”
