A gubernatorial aspirant of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, at the weekend sued for peace in the party and expressed hope that the party would dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress from the Agodi Government House come 2019.
Makinde spoke in Ibadan when he hosted over 600 PDP executives at the wards and 33 local governments in the state to an interactive meeting.
According to him, the APC government has failed the masses and the singsong everywhere you go today across the state is the coming back of purposeful, results oriented and welfarist government, which the PDP represents.
While declaring that contrary to insinuations in some quarters that he was having a running battle with the party’s leader and former Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, over the planned harmonization of the State Executive of the PDP, Makinde said the issue was blown out of proportion by the opposition to cause serious crisis in the party.
He said Ladoja, being a former Governor, at all times is still his leader considering his political experience, age and influence, noting that he remains his father politically, hence there was no need for him to drag the leadership of the party with him.
Makinde thereafter charged the party members to work towards ensuring that the aim of the party to send the ruling APC away in 2019 come becomes a reality.
Makinde said: “What we want to do is to send APC away in 2019.
“After that, we will call ourselves and move forward.
“I am not here to declare my governorship ambition but to ensure that I interact with party executives.
“The essence of this meeting is to interactive with them, the party executives.
“All the 33 local government areas in Oyo State.
“We have the opportunity to meet them and interact with them from our various local government areas.”
In his remark on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the Chairmen’s Forum, Prince Seun Moronfolu, said the meeting was unprecedented and the outcome will affect the fortunes of the party, stressing that the masses will not forgive the party if it allows the current sufferings of the people to continue by not resolving the issue on time.
In his own remark, Chief Jacob Adetoro noted that the party will wax stronger after the resolution of the crisis, while Mogaji Nureni Akanbi said the 600 exco members should be realistic and utilise positively the powers bestowed on them by the party’s constitution.
