The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has threatened to recall three legislators elected on the platform of the party for defecting to the All Progressives Congress without cogent reason.
The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Salisu Mahmuda, made the announcement on Monday in Dutse while addressing newsmen.
Mahmuda said two of the legislators are members of the House of Representatives, while the third is a member of the state Assembly.
He said the two legislators who are members of the House of Representatives are Alhaji Sabo Nakudu representing Birninkudu/Buji Federal Constituency and Alhaji Ibrahim Giwa representing Gagarawa/Maigatari/Suletankarkar Federal Constituency.
Mahmuda said the third legislator, Alhaji Adamu Sarki, represents Miga constituency in the House of Assembly.
He said: “We are in the process of recalling the three legislators because they left the party without any tangible reason.
“There is no justification for their action because the party was not in crisis.”
The chairman added that the action of the lawmakers was contrary to the provisions of the law and hence the need to sanction them.
He said the party had already commenced collecting signatures of the electorate in their various constituencies as prelude to their recall.
Mahmuda added: “At the moment, we are collecting signatures of the electorates from their constituencies.
“By the time we finish, we will contact the Independent National Electoral Commission to begin the actual recall process for the lawmakers.”
