PDP national chairman rates FCT Administration high on service delivery

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has scored the Federal Capital Territory Administration high on effective service delivery in the territory.

The PDP national chairman was reacting to the minister’s briefing on FCTA activities during his visit to the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja.
He commended the minister for executing development projects, adding that this has drastically improved the FCT from what it was 10 years earlier.
He said: “The party has noted with satisfaction the infrastructural development recorded in line with the Transformation Agenda of the present administration.
“We can see improvement in our capital city today.
“Our great party has therefore rated the minister’s performance as five over six because he has put things in place in line with the transformation agenda of Mr. President.”
Speaking also at the occasion, Kema Chikwe, a member of the committee, equally commended Mohammed for the strides recorded in the Land Swap programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the programme was initiated to open more districts in the territory’s capital city of Abuja.
Chikwe drew the minister’s attention to a pond close to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, saying it should be harnessed for tourist attraction as it would be an added advantage to the city.
Speaking earlier on the activities of the FCTA, Mohammed explained that land in the country belongs to the Federal Government and could be used for anything.
“The objective of the Land Swap programme is to ensure a comprehensive development of districts in line with the Abuja Master Plan and it would attract huge interest from both within and outside the country,” he said.
The minister said the initiative would “unlock the dead capital by freeing up land” with the issuance of title documents globally acceptable for business activities.
He said: “FCTA is giving land to developers in exchange for infrastructure and when that is completed the investor will give us some percentage of the developed land and this can be sold to FCT residents.”
Mohammed also recalled that FCTA had recorded great achievements in the education sector by accrediting 85 new schools and had provided 12 science laboratories, among others.
On health, Mohammed said the FCTA had provided intensive care support to selected hospitals and clinics in the federal capital.
He said: “We have provision of Mailafia mobile health programme to take healthcare facilities to rural areas with the provision of over 300 vehicles.
“We have empowered 500 youths through the SURE-P programme.
“We created the Youth Support Centre in Nyanya last year and over 4,800 prostitutes and destitute were taken off the streets of Abuja.”
