A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, Chris Mamman, at the weekend escaped death by the whiskers in Eggon when some suspected political thugs attacked him.
Mamman was said to have been abducted shortly after by some unknown persons.
Eyewitness accounts said that Mamman was beaten blue black by the thugs, who were suspected to be supporters of some governorship aspirants.
The aspirant Mamman was reportedly attacked at the venue of a scheduled meeting with other governorship aspirants who are from the Eggon axis of the state.
The meeting, it was gathered, was aimed at arriving at the emergence of a consensus
candidate.
The angry mob, it was further learnt, descended on Mamman and later abducted him.
The Director General of the Chris Mamman’s Campaign Organisation, Nawani Aboki Ezekiel, confirmed this on Monday to journalists at the campaign office in Lafia, the state capital.
According to Aboki: “The mob, who were waiting for him (Chris Mamman) violently attacked him.
“All attempts to stop the mob were not unsuccessful.
“He was however rescued and brought home, after which some unknown persons came in and abducted him at about 9pm.”
The DG further disclosed that some supporters suspected to be belonging to other
governorship aspirants, who were at the scene of the event, rescued him from the hands of the attackers, but his car was burnt down.
He said: “The last time we spoke with him (Mamman) was at about 8pm last Sunday.
“Shortly after that conversation, his line ceased to go through.
“As we speak now, we don’t know where he is.”
Aboki however alleged that key individuals that were suspected to be behind the mischievous act were the gubernatorial aspirants whom he was expected to meet with at the Aren Eggon’s palace to settle their political differences.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State command, ASP Ismaila Numan, confirmed the attack.
Numan said full investigation was ongoing.
Numan however denied any knowledge of Mamman’s kidnap.
