The Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, on Wednesday commended the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party for its role in keeping the party intact and standing by him during the crisis at the national level.
Aliyu said: “If things don’t go well in PDP, things won’t go well in Nigeria.”
Governor Aliyu stated this in Minna, the state capital, during the launch and distribution of 50 Toyota Hiace buses to the 25 local government areas in Niger State under the SURE-P Mass Transit Scheme.
According to him: “I commend you (state Chairman) for keeping the party intact despite the crisis we have been facing.
“In Niger State, we understand the struggle for the reformation of PDP in Nigeria.
“If the Peoples Democratic Party goes well, Nigeria will go well.
“If the PDP is democratic, Nigeria will be democratic.
“We are aware that there are some few disgruntled elements in our party who want otherwise.
“The crisis in the PDP was meant to stop the trend of dictatorship in the party, but some people here are taking advantage of the crisis to go to Abuja and collect money.
“We shall wait for them politically and security wise.”
Governor Aliyu also said that the governors of the 19 Northern states have thrown their weight behind the national conference proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan in his Independence Day broadcast on Tuesday.
According to him: “The North will not be afraid of the conference, but will rather go confidently to the conference and discuss matters affecting Nigeria with other Nigerians.
“No matter the nature of the dialogue, the bottom line will be what type of Nigeria we want.
