A former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Chief Sam Onyishi, has withdrawn his suit challenging the emergence of Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the party’s governorship candidate in the April 11 election.
Onyishi said this on Thursday in Enugu during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Onyishi participated in a parallel governorship primary election of the party in December 2014.
He later approached an Abuja High Court seeking the disqualification of Ugwuanyi who emerged in another primary election supervised and recognised by the PDP headquarters in Abuja.
Onyishi said: “I had to withdraw the suit after a lot of people, including party chieftains, spoke to me.
“I agreed because we are all in politics to render service to our people.
“The withdrawal of the suit was done without any condition attached to it.”
Onyishi, a foremost transporter, said he was impressed that Ugwuanyi hailed from his senatorial zone.
He appealed to party members who were still aggrieved as a result of the outcome of the party primary election to sheath their sword and work for the success of PDP.
He said: “Now that the dust has settled, I want to charge Ugwuanyi to render selfless service to the people if he eventually emerges the governor of the state.”
NAN reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had earlier struck out a suit by Senator Ayogu Eze, who also challenged Ugwuanyi’s emergence as the PDP gubernatorial election flag bearer in Enugu state.
