Winifred Oyo- Ita, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, has promised to address the challenges confronting the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Oyo- Ita said this during the peer review visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja.
The Head of Service, who came with some Permanent Secretaries, suggested that the ministry should collaborate with other relevant partners for more support to enable them carry out their activities more effectively.
Oyo -Ita said the ministry should extend its mandate to establish a department of psychology for men.
She said that this would enable it reduce violence extended to women and children as a result of financial stress and other psychological issues confronting men.
She promised to present the request of the ministry in the Federal Executive Council meeting.
She said that the ministry should collaborate with National Assembly to come up with stringent law to ensure that perpetrators were adequately dealt with in accordance to the law.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ifeoma Anagbogu, said the ministry’s budget was not adequate to meet up with the activities of the ministry.
She said that the ministry had done so much in carrying out its activities with little funds.
Anagbobu said: “The ministry needs to embark more on economic support for women to be able to carter for themselves and their families.’’
Anagbogu however presented the up-to-date activities of the ministry.
