As the year 2015 ends in the operational calendar of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, has commended the staff for their high level performances in the outgoing year.
Oyeyemi said the Management remains committed to enunciating policies that could adequately address their welfare needs.
In a press release made available by Bisi Kazeem, the Head of Media Relations of the FRSC, Oyeyemi expressed gratitude to God for the successes recorded in 2015 and commitment to improving on the achievements in the coming year.
He particularly prayed for the successful crossover of all staff, enjoining them to be prepared to live faithfully in carrying out their statutory responsibilities of keeping the roads safe.
Although admitting that the challenges of 2015 were multifaceted and involved staff risking their lives to save road cash victims, travelling several kilometres to ensure that road users were enlightened and diffusing tension as well as rescuing crash victims even at odd hours of the day, the Corps Marshal expressed gratitude to God that the organisation survived the odds.
According to him, several lives that could have perished in road crashes were saved through the vigilance and commitment of members of the Corps, saying such individuals will forever remain grateful to the FRSC for the steadfastness and dedication the personnel have shown to their duties.
The Corps Marshal expressed pride in the spirit of selfless service exhibited by members of the Corps in 2015 and enjoined them to remain steadfast in pursuing the common goals in the new year.
While appreciating the individuals for their contributions to the success story of the FRSC in outgoing year, Oyeyemi admonished staff not to rest on their oars, saying 2016 will come with its own peculiar challenges, which they must be prepared to overcome in their determination to create a safer road environment that would be conducive for social and economic activities.
“To be victorious, you must continue to adhere to the processes and procedures of the Corps in all areas of operations and general administration,” he stated.
On the need for staff to increase their productivity and efficiency in service delivery in the coming year, the Corps Marshal stated that it is only through sustained commitment to the core values of the FRSC that the attainment of the Quality Management System Certification (ISO 9001:2008) by the Corps in March 2016 could be justified.
He therefore, appealed to the staff to continue to promote hard work and dedication to duty in line with the World Class Organization status of the Corps, adding that the certification must be retained through sustained adherence to the processes.
Oyeyemi further disclosed that the FRSC intends to focus on three main goals in 2016: These are: improvement of fleet operations and sustenance of consultation with stakeholders; collaboration with States to improve road safety administration and improvement in public education and aggressive enforcement of traffic regulations. “Towards achieving these strategic goals, we must humble ourselves, enhance our character and integrity through projection of our sense of value, interest in our profession and general good qualities,” he stated.
“In all our dealings, let justice, peace and development of the nation be our guiding principles. No member of the FRSC family must be inclined to un-productive engagements and non-creativity,” he added
On staff’s health care, the Corps Marshal urged every personnel of the Corps to always engage in physical fitness exercise as they enter the new year, saying they must undergo routine medical checkups to ascertain their health status and take very good care of their families.
“As we journey in the course of our chosen profession, I wish all staff happy, prosperous and elevating New Year 2016,” Oyeyemi wrote.
It would be recalled that the FRSC in 2015, in line with its principles of Consultation, Reward and Punishment embarked on policies that led to increased productivity, staff motivation and punishment system, which resulted in massive promotions, presentation of merit awards to the Corps from various organisations and increased support from government and non-governmental organisations with the Corps Marshal pledging to sustain the tempo in the year 2016.
