Five male members of a faction of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State were on Wednesday arraigned at a Magistrate Court in Ikirun over the attacks on the faction that took place on Tuesday.
Among those sent to Ilesa Prison by the Magistrate is a former Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
Those arrested and arraigned were Akinlade Abayomi, 38; Atitebi Sodiq, 25; Azeez Adejimi, 28; Alatayo Seun Solomon, 36; and Siju Oyewumi, 68.
The APC in Osun State is divided into two factions with loyalty split among Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor now Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The faction loyal to Aregbesola had accused the Oyetola faction of sending hoodlums to disrupt its Federal Constituency meeting in Ikirun on Tuesday, during which one of the thugs was apprehended.
A video in circulation showed a young man who had been caught and beaten by aggrieved residents over the attacks on elderly men and women at the meeting.
However, the faction had claimed earlier on Wednesday that the government had ordered the arrest of those who resisted the attack on the party members on Tuesday, with five of them picked up in the middle of the night.
The spokesman of the faction, Comrade Abiodun Agboola, in his reaction late Wednesday, said it is an irony that those who attacked party members were left without any arrest, while those who were attacked have been arrested and sent to prison.
Agboola said: “Let the world know that this is what Governor Oyetola is doing in Osun to members of the party that gave him the platform.
“Members of your party were holding a Federal Constituency meeting, you sent thugs to attack them and you left the thugs to be free and got those who were attacked to be arrested and sent to prison?”
