Olujimi, Oni express shock at Ekiti deputy governor’s death

A former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Abiodun Olujimi, has exp[ressed shock at the death of the state Deputy Governor, Funmilayo Olayinka.
Olujimi, in an email to The Eagle Online, after a telephone conversation that had her crying, described Olayinka as a woman with poise.
She said: “It was a shock to hear of he death of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Olayinka. We were praying and hoping that she would return to her office until the news last night.
:She was a woman with poise and good behavior who made her mark in the few years she occupied the seat as Deputy Governor.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to her family and our dear State on the loss of an industrious, warm and courageous woman who ventured into the politics of the State.
“While I pray for the repose of her soul, I want her family to console themselves in the thought that she launched their name into politics and did not tarnish it in any way.
“Her death is a reminder also to all of us especially those in political offices that our priviledged status is time and term barred so we should constantly give thoughts to touching lives and giving providence the opportunity to judge us right.
“It is a re awakening and a call to all of us that life is so short. I pray that with this untimely death in mind we can change our attitudes to ourselves and our citizens.
“Mrs Olayinka came, saw and will be in our memories for ever as a beautiful and warm soul. Our gender has been depleted, but we pray that God will give her supportive family the Grace and fortitude to bear the loss.
“Rest in Peace our dear one.”
Also on Sunday, a former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, described the death of Olayinka as a loss, not only to the people of Ekiti State but to the entire country.
Reacting to the deputy governor’s death through his Chief Press Secretary, Lere Olayinka, the former governor, who said he was saddened and pained by the death, added: “Mrs Olayinka will be sorely missed by her friends, associates, admirers and family members as well as the entire state.”
Oni implored the family, the Ewi-in-council, the entire people of Ado-Ekiti and the entire people of Ekiti State to take solace in the fact that the deputy governor contributed her quota to the development of the state.
He said: “The death of Mrs Olayinka is no doubt a loss to the people of Ekiti State and we will continue to pray, trusting that God in His infinite mercies will grant her soul eternal rest.
“I urge the government and the entire people of Ekiti State to be consoled by the fact that death is the inevitable end of all mortals and it must come when it would come.
“It is also my prayer that the good Lord will grant the deceased eternal rest and also grant her family, the Ewi-in-council, the people of Ado-Ekiti and the entire State the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“May her soul rest in peace.”
