Oliseh was a nobody – Keshi

Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has reacted to his critics, especially those who accuse him of depending too much on home-based players.
Keshi took eight local based stars to the just-ended FIFA Confederations Cup and received a lot of criticisms for that move, with some even blaming it as the cause of the Eagles early exit from the competition.
This has led the coach to descend heavily on his former national teammate, Sunday Oliseh, for attributing the team’s poor outing in Brazil to Keshi’s supposed dependence on home based stars.
He said: “It is a shame that Sunday Oliseh could say a thing like that.
“He was a nobody when he came to the national team.
“He started from home too.”
Keshi also appealed to the media to back his rebuilding project.
He asked: “Is it bad that we are trying to build a team with the inclusion of home-based players?”
He went further: “Please, help me question the integrity of those who are opposed to this and tell them what it’s right.
“When he (Oliseh) came to the national team, I took him as a younger brother.
“I later (as an assistant coach to Amodu Shuabu) made him captain and he became a super star.
“Who knows what these boys could become in future?”
Keshi took five local players to the Nations Cup in South Africa.
Godfrey Oboabona and Sunday Mba were outstanding and were rated more than many of the foreign-based players in the squad.
