The General Manager of Heartland FC of Owerri, Imo State, Chief Fan Ndubuoke, has dispelled the insinuation that the numerous successes achieved by the club had been without the support of the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
In a statement signed by the media officer of the club, Cajetan Nkwopara, Heartland’s management said that on the contrary, Okorocha has been the pillar behind the team’s successes.
This is against the reports in some media suggesting that the club has been poorly funded by the Imo State Government.
The statement said in part: “The truth of the matter is that only Imo State Government funds Heartland FC and all we have achieved were made possible by both moral and financial support of the Imo State Government, especially the governor himself.
“The GM never granted any interview nor did he encourage anyone to criticize the government.
“Inasmuch as we appreciate encomiums from Nigerians, we appeal against statements, written or spoken, which down plays the role of government on these achievements.”
Heartland, it is recalled, won the Federations Cup, the Super Cup and lately the Super Four cup in Kano.
