Nigeria’s queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare, has dedicated her 200m bronze medal at the World Athletics Championship n Moscow, Russia to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Okagbare described Uduaghan as her backbone.
Okagbare also dedicated the medal to the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, whom she described as a mentor and father.
She said: “I dedicate this to my Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who has been my backbone.
“He lifted me when I was down.
“I also want to dedicate my medals here to AFN President, Solomon Ogba, who has been a father and mentor.
“There are others who I want to dedicate my medals here to.
“They have to work out how to split them.”
With a second medal in the IAAF World Championship, Okagbare has more than fulfilled her promise to Uduaghan.
She had last month promised the governor a world championship medal while dedicating to him her long jump victory at the Monaco Diamond League meet.
Okagbare after Friday’s race established two records in Nigeria’s athletics: the first Nigerian to win two medals at the World Athletics Championship and the first Nigerian to win two medals in one edition of the championship.
The 24-year-old is hoping to set the record even higher as she is eying the podium during the 4x100m final coming up on Sunday.
