Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange for the second consecutive day on Wednesday maintained the upbeat trend with the market indicators recording higher growth rates.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the All-Share Index grew by 241.82 points or 0.67 per cent to close at 36,236.49 against the 35,994.67 posted on Tuesday.
Similarly, the market capitalisation appreciated by N78 billion to close at N11.58 trillion from the N11.51 trillion achieved on Tuesday as a result of price gains by some blue chips.
NAN reports that Nestle recorded the highest price gain of N24.50 to close at N945 per share.
It was trailed by Total with a gain of N14 to close at N172, while Lafarge Wapco rose by N7.83 to close at N95 per share.
Guinness gained N4.78 to close at N275, while Julius Berger chalked up N2.09 to close at N53.59 per share.
Conversely, Northern Nigerian Flour Mills topped the losers’ chart, dropping N2.38 to close at N21.42 per share.
Nigerian Breweries came second on the losers’ chart, losing N1.77 to close at N173.03, while Cadbury lost N1.50 to close at N42.01per share.
UAC Property dipped by 99k to close at N16.50, while Ekocorp dropped 48k to close at N4.32 per share.
The financial services sector remained the toast of investors’ with Fidelity Bank accounting for 39.83 million shares worth N118.93 million.
Zenith Bank followed on that activity chart with a total of 28.71 million shares valued at N621.03 million, while UBA sold 28.24 million shares valued at N234.89 million.
In all, investors exchanged 371.26 million shares worth N4.73 billion in 6,122 deals against the 433.16 million shares valuedat N4.24 billion traded in 6,065 deals on Tuesday.
